To quote from the book Regarding the Pain of Others written by Susan Sontag:
Much value is assigned to memory, not enough to thinking. Remembering is an ethical act, has ethical value in and of itself. Memory is, achingly, the only relation we can have with the dead. (90)
By the time that I had learned photography I had lost both of my grandparents, and I had missed the chance of registering their life and capturing their faces. However, after the death of my friend’s grandmother when I visited her grandmother’s house, I could not stop incarnating my own grandparents’ thoughts and the memories of their house. That is why I decided to capture my friend grandmother’s memories as though she is still present in her home before the house becomes someone else’s home and is filled by new residents. And by making this documentary I tried to make a connection with the grandmother who has passed away recently and register her memories in my frame.
